Bam! It's that time of year again, folks. Back to school for the kids, back to work for the adults, and back to long days in a crowded classroom for everyone else. But wait! If you’re not in school anymore or if you are looking for a bit of novelty, there are plenty of ways you can entertain yourself without any extra cash. So grab your coat and get outside because it’s time to enjoy some free cultural events this week. You read that right! The Toronto arts scene is bustling with free exhibits, shows, performances and more at venues all across the city. In fact, it’s so jam-packed I’ve decided to do a whole week of free events! So hold on to your hats, because our cultural adventure is just beginning. I have more than a few shows and exhibits for you this week, so get ready to check off a few items from your bucket list and add a few new items to the list. The artist duo known as artist duo known as ODDZOO will be in town this week for their mixed-media exhibit at the A Space Gallery. The exhibit will feature new drawings, paintings and sculptures that are “inspired by the works of Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung”. If you’re in the mood for something a little darker you can check out Canadian artist Ghislain Lebel, who will be showing his head-scratching shadow puppetry titled “The Puppet Show” at the Bata Shoe Museum this weekend. The exhibit promises to be an intimate affair so get there early if you want to get a good seat. The ROM is hosting two different exhibits this week -- both of which are free! The first is called "A New Light" and takes viewers through the history of human flight. The second is an exhibit called "Becoming Van Gogh" which documents the process of restoring Vincent Van Gogh's "Portrait of Doctor Gachet" painting, all of which will be on display until January 8. If you’re looking for a more hands-on experience, why not stop by the Ontario Science Centre to build an airplane and embark on a simulated flight. Or if you really want to get creative, try your hand at one of their many programs that are free with admission. You can also feed your inner astronomer by visiting their nightly observatory observation sessions where you can learn about the universe. To cap off the week, I suggest you check out an exhibit of artistic photographs called "The Darkroom". The show will be on display at The Gladstone Hotel all week long. Finally, if you’re in the mood for something that’s thrifty but still somewhat adventurous this week, stop by the LIUNA Museum located on Bloor Street between Avenue Road and Davenport Road. The museum will be hosting a “free form rock climbing wall” this week. You can help them build it by carrying building materials up to their site on Tuesday night between 5PM and 8PM. And finally... cfa1e77820
